US President Joe Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump won a landslide victory in statewide nominating contests on Tuesday, setting up a historic rematch in the November election.

The day is traditionally called Super Tuesday – When most states choose who they think should be their nominee – each has effectively secured the nomination for its party.

republican Mr. Trump She is expected to win Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia, ignoring Nikki Haley.

while, Mr. Biden He appeared to easily win almost all of the same states as well as Iowa and Vermont.

Despite their clear victories, a rematch between Trump, 77, and Biden, 81 – the first repeat US presidential match-up since 1956 – is one that few Americans seem to want, based on opinion polls.

Speaking to a crowd at his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, Trump described the president as “the worst” the country has ever seen.

“There has never been anything like what is happening to our country,” he added, before incorrectly adding that 15 million people had crossed the southern border from Mexico into the United States.

But Mr. Biden warned his rival — who he is He faces a series of criminal chargesIncluding interference in the 2020 election – “determined to destroy our democracy.”

He added: “He is motivated by injustice and wrongdoing, and is focused on his revenge and vengeance, not the American people.”

“He is determined to destroy our democracy, take away basic freedoms like women's ability to make their own health care decisions, and pass another round of billions of dollars in tax cuts for the wealthy — and he will do or say anything for it,” he added. He put himself in power.”

Edison's exit polls in California, North Carolina and Virginia indicate that immigration and the economy are the main concerns of voters in both parties.

A majority of Republican voters in those states said they support deporting illegal immigrants, and Trump promised to launch the largest deportation effort in US history if he is elected.

    What is Super Tuesday?

Super Tuesday is the day most US states choose who they believe should be their presidential nominee.

In 15 states, plus the US territory of American Samoa, Democrats and Republicans say who they want to see on the ballot next November.

Super Tuesday — an unofficial name that has been in use since at least 1976 — is also the time when the largest number of delegates are awarded to candidates.

Although voters cast ballots for their preferred presidential candidates, it is the delegates to the national party conventions who ultimately choose the presidential nominees for each major party.

This means that candidates need to secure delegates, largely by winning primaries, to ensure their path to election.

This year, however, Super Tuesday was dominated by two front-runners, unusual for a day usually limited to a few groups.
