The ghost of your future They've dropped another new song in anticipation of their upcoming debut album that shares the raucous party anthem “beautiful.” Duo project Kate Vogel And Michael Grubbs, the track exudes an ecstatic, unbridled bravado that gets to the heart of the raw pop-rock they make together. Revealing a new side of their sound that was first introduced by a lead single “We have places.”
When the album arrives, you'll find the duo behind Your Future Ghost delivering upbeat, raucous anthems. Their latest release “PRITTY” taps into this anxious explosion of emotion through a chaotic, captivating mix of new wave, itchy punk and tense electro-pop. Through a gauntlet of whiny synths and shrieking vocals, Voegele cruises with delicious audacity.
Amidst the song's unbridled adrenaline rush and sexy swagger is a sarcastic lesson about tolerating another person's impractical behavior. With Voegele taking the reins and taking on her chaotically captivating role with feverish delight. “A little flea in a web of destruction / You're on your knees like a sinner in church,” she murmured. “You're begging please, can you give me something/A little blessing to break the curse.”
“PRITTY is about being a little bit unhinged but also irresistible,” Vogeli explained. “You're self-aware enough to know that you're a mess, but you're also not sorry about it because you're such an amazing person. It's about knowing that the weirdest thing about you is probably also the coolest thing about you, and not being afraid to celebrate that even if it makes Some people are angry or uncomfortable.
Turning up the tempo and inundating themselves with searing acoustics is a radical change from their first single, “We've Got Places.” However, both songs speak to the underlying ethos of Your Future Ghosts, which for both Voegele and Grubbs aims to highlight the exhilarating freedom that comes with being unabashedly yourself.
“I would encourage people to accept themselves,” Grubbs said. “And it's not easy. I'm such a sad friend and Kate is this pop star and singer-songwriter, and together we're making this dirty indie album because that's what we've always been inside.”
