The Chinese Coast Guard fired on a Filipino boat in the disputed area in the South China Sea.
Earlier, the Philippines accused China of carrying out “dangerous maneuvers” after two Chinese coast guard ships collided in the area on Tuesday.
The Philippine Coast Guard said it was near the Second Thomas Shoal area – known in Chinese as Ren'ai Jiao – when the accident occurred.
A Philippine official said in a tweet that the ship suffered minor structural damage.
He shared footage showing the ships colliding with each other and then rubbing against each other.
Chinese state media reported that the Chinese Coast Guard “lawfully took action against a Filipino ship.”
