IPL cricketer Nicholas Pooran was caught making a simple mistake. It wasn't on the field, but on social media. Famous West Indies cricketer in India now. He came to attend the pre-wedding party of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant.
Anant is the younger son of Nita Ambani and Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani. Radhika is the daughter of Viren Merchant, CEO, Encore Healthcare Private Limited, and Sheela Merchant.
This pre-wedding celebration had a large guest list. It includes names from all over the world. They all came to Reliance town in Jamnagar. Pooran, who was previously appointed vice-captain of Lucknow Super Giants, was also part of it.
On Instagram, he wanted to share how he was enjoying Indian traditions. He wore traditional dress for the occasion. But he made a mistake in his position. Instead of saying he “embraces” Indian culture, he wrote “embarrassing.”
This typo did not go unnoticed. Fans spotted him. They couldn't stop sharing them online. It became a laugh riot.
“Trust me, this is intentional,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Another wrote: “I think this is not a mistake… Maybe he meant that Indian culture, here the outfit, may not suit him well but he adapts and at the same time is humble.”
“Pooran is a proud student of Akmal Institute of English,” one user wrote, while apparently referring to Pakistani cricketer Omar Akmal's “confusing” birthday wish for Virat Kohli.
“Happy birthday bro @imVkohli to the King of India sir,” Akmal wrote on November 5 while also tagging Sachin Tendulkar.
“I think it's more of a self-deprecating sense of humor where he wants to say that by dressing like that, he's embarrassing Indian culture, perhaps because he wants to imply that he's incapable of doing that.” It's certainly not a typo, came from another user about Boran's post.
It turned out to be a typo, and Boran quickly noticed his mistake. He changed the word “embarrassing” to “embracing” in his post.
Puran with Mumbai Indians
Pooran is no stranger to the Ambani family. Mumbai Indians bought him for IPL 2017 but did not play him in any further matches. During the IPL 2018 auctions, the wicket-keeper-batsman remained unsold.
However, MI's collaboration with Pooran is not over yet. He now works with MI UAE and MI New York. Under his captaincy, these teams won titles in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 and International League T20 (ILT20) 2024. His batting was excellent in the finals.
