To celebrate Women's History Month, students and campus groups are hosting events across the University of Texas at Arlington campus.
This year, the Gender, Women's and Sexuality Studies Program is hosting “Women in Pop CultHER” with the Center for Multicultural Student Engagement, Department of Global Engagement, Career Development Center, Women of Gold, RVSP, Fraternity and Sorority Life and Health Services.
“Women have taken over popular culture this year,” said Dustin Harp, director of the Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies program and associate professor in the College of Liberal Arts. “Barbie,” the biggest movie in Hollywood, starred women, and had Taylor Swift and Beyoncé’s two highest-grossing world tours.
“We will celebrate women in popular culture, but we will also think critically about the role of women in society, in history, and in places where women's voices are not represented.”
