    US Supreme Court overturns attempt to disqualify Trump from Colorado primaries – BBC News

    1. The US Supreme Court invalidated efforts made by individual states to prevent Donald Trump from running in the presidential elections scheduled for next November.
    2. The justices unanimously overturned Colorado's decision to exclude Trump from the Republican primary ballot
    3. Judges in the state had cited the anti-insurrection clause of the US Constitution to ban Trump; Similar attempts have been made in Illinois and Maine
    4. Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment prohibits any person who has “participated in rebellion or rebellion” from holding office
    5. The Colorado ruling cited Trump's actions regarding the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol by his supporters
    6. But in their decision announced Monday morning, the justices ruled that only Congress has the authority to enforce the provision, not the states.
    7. Republican voters in Colorado and more than a dozen other states head to the polls Tuesday to choose the party's presidential nominee.
