(WGHP) – North Carolina's Severe Weather Preparedness Week will be March 3 through March 9, the National Weather Service in Raleigh announced Wednesday.
They also announced that a statewide tornado drill will be conducted on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 9:30 a.m.
During statewide tornado drills, the National Weather Service encourages every school, business, workplace and family in the state to participate by designating a tornado safe location.
Although no actual hurricane warning will be issued, the drill will be broadcast on NOAA's weather radio and through the Emergency Alert System.
The National Weather Service in Raleigh states, “If there is severe weather on Wednesday morning, March 6, 2024, statewide tornado drills will be postponed.”
The alternate training date is scheduled for March 8 at 9:30 a.m
With the warmer seasons approaching, it's time to prepare for the severe weather season. In North Carolina, the severe weather season occurs primarily between April and August with peak severe weather activity occurring from May through July.
Tornado season for Trinity is primarily in April and May.
During Severe Weather Preparedness Week, the National Weather Service in Raleigh along with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety will cover topics such as ways to receive severe weather alerts, how to stay safe during high winds, hail and tornadoes, and will focus on lightning and flash.
