Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) urged his fellow Republicans not to fight against GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump or his endorsed nominees.
Vance's comments came via a social media post on X.
“I have a long memory,” he warned. “If you are politically fighting Trump and his pro-Trump candidates today, don’t seek my help in a year with your legislation or pet projects.”
Vance quickly became one of the former president's staunchest allies in the Senate after winning reelection in 2022.

J.D. Vance – America First
Senator J.D. Vance has been a model “America First” congressman since joining the Senate in January of 2023.
Earlier this year, he criticized Ukraine as America's “welfare agent”, while accusing it of “executing” an American citizen, journalist Gonzalo Lira.
Shortly before that, he eviscerated the media for its coverage of Trump Answer To the border invasion under President Biden, rather than the invasion itself.

The Ohio congressman also described the criminal charges against Trump and related court proceedings as “direct election interference.”

Thomas Massey answers
Despite his strong support for the presumptive Republican nominee for president, J.D. Vance was quickly reminded that Trump's support sometimes evolves over time.
The only person to point this out was Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.).
“I take his endorsement with caution,” Massey responded to X. “He once said I should be expelled from the Republican Party because I asked for a recorded vote on the CARES Act, which was the largest spending bill in history. “
“He may be wrong sometimes, but I will work with him for the good of the country.”
Critics also pointed out that J.D. Vance's long memory may not include changing his mind regarding Trump.
A text message from 2016 showed that Vance viewed Trump as either a “cynical idiot” or “America's Hitler.”
Despite this, Trump endorsed Vance and later joked that the senator was “kissing his ass” despite saying very negative things about the former president in the past.
This is not an attempt to shame Vance for his comments, but rather a gentle reminder that sometimes people's hearts and minds change.
Nothing said during a contentious preseason will matter as long as people say — and, more importantly, do — the right things when they matter.
