Syracuse, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — After the start of snow on Thursday for many, today's lake effect snow will be replaced by milder weather and sun on Friday. Details below…

Lake effect snow is finally falling!

The lake effect snow north of Syracuse finally tapers off after midnight. Little, if any, additional accumulation is expected.

For the rest of Central New York, skies are clear throughout the night.

Back to spring weather on Friday

Our return to winter weather lasts for only one day, as temperatures begin to trend warm on Friday.

Along with mostly sunny skies, expect unusually high temperatures in the upper 40s. By the end of the weekend, highs will be back in the 50s.

With all the sun and fresh snow, it's going to be a particularly bright day, so get your glasses ready and if you're heading out for a hike, I suggest you slather some sunscreen on your face to avoid getting a sunburn (no joke).

A wet start to the weekend

Clouds move quickly from the south Friday night as high pressure moves offshore and our winds shift to the south.

Precipitation will follow immediately after the clouds, and we expect some rain in Central New York before dawn on Saturday. It could be cold enough in the highlands east of Syracuse that precipitation could start out as wet snow or sleet.

Rain continues Saturday but with temperatures in the 40s it looks like just a light drizzle during the day.

It will be drier on Sunday. After a cloudy start there should be some sun in the afternoon. We're back in the 50s with warmer weather expected early next week!
