In Parliament on Friday (March 1), Deputy Speaker Jessica Tan addressed the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) estimates. MP Tin Bee Ling then highlighted the need for Singapore to be prepared for technological advancements and the spread of artificial intelligence (AI) that is reshaping industries and the global landscape. She said Singapore needs to invest early, maintain and strengthen digital trust, as well as leverage digital capabilities to bridge gaps and build communities and better lives. It asked the Ministry of Trade and Investment to update what it is doing to promote investments in digital infrastructure and update regulations, as well as help companies and institutions implement higher standards of digital security and resilience. Ms. Tin also wanted to know the progress of the Cybersecurity Health Plan's implementation. It requested the Ministry of Trade and Industry to obtain the initial results of the digital communication plan, in addition to the efforts made to support the workforce to be ready for artificial intelligence and the future. Ms Tin wanted to know what the government was doing to ensure public service media continued to protect social cohesion and shared space, as well as maintain vernacular capabilities. She also asked how the government would facilitate greater citizen participation and engagement in identifying problems and co-creating successful digital solutions.
