AVERY COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) – Multiple mountain school districts in North Carolina will operate with a two-hour delay on Friday due to the possibility of freezing rain and dangerous road conditions.

All students in Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties are covered by the delay.

Due to an early morning forecast of snow and freezing rain beginning at 7 a.m., Watauga County Schools will operate on a two (2) hour delay on Friday, March 1.

Temperatures in those areas start near or below freezing, with highs on Friday expected to only reach the upper 30s.

Watauga County Schools said buses currently plan to operate on regular routes.

The first weather alert day was in effect Friday due to rain expected throughout the day across the Carolinas. A winter weather advisory has also been issued.
