People began gathering outside the Church of the Icon of the Virgin Mary Aroi Sorrow, in Maryino, where Alexei Navalny's funeral is scheduled to take place later today.
Navalny died on February 16 in a Russian prison inside the Arctic Circle. He was serving a long sentence on politically motivated charges.
Just two hours ago, his team says they are still facing difficulties organizing the farewell party.
His spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh said they were unable to find a hearse to transport the body to the church.
The farewell ceremony is scheduled to be held in the morning, followed by the funeral ceremony at 14.00 (11.00 GMT) and the burial at 16.00 (13.00 GMT).
