    Tourist's leg broken after elephant attack world News

    A tourist suffered a broken leg after an elephant grabbed her and she fell to the ground.

    Campaign group PETA published footage of the incident to highlight animal welfare and public safety concerns.

    It happened in the main courtyard of the historic Amer Fort in Jaipur. Indiawhere elephant riding is promoted to tourists.

    The footage is shown cow – Called Juri or “Flight 86” – she uses her trunk to catch the woman.

    The animal then moves the Russian woman and knocks her down.

    Jori also seriously injured a shop owner in October 2022, PETA said.

    The campaign group is now urging regional officials to move the elephant to an animal sanctuary “where she can begin to recover from the mental trauma of a lifetime of slavery.”

    It also wants elephant rides to be stopped after the incident on February 13.

    “Elephants who have spent years chained, harassed and threatened with weapons are known to run amok, running amok in fear and frustration,” said Poorva Joshipura, PETA's vice president for international affairs.

    “Despite being a known danger, Gauri continued to be used to ferry tourists to Amer Fort.

    “The authorities need to wake up, send them to a sanctuary and replace the use of elephants with beautifully decorated electric vehicles. In the meantime, tourists need to vote with their wallets and not support this exploitation.”
