Since then, the organization has been turned inward, with its functions absorbed by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The remnants of the Wagner Group are now reportedly being operated under the name of the Russian “Reconnaissance Corps”.

When he died, Prigozhin's death sparked speculation about the future of Russian influence and military presence in Africa.

For years, the Wagner Group has played a key role in supporting allied regimes across the continent, benefiting from arrangements such as mining and logging concessions.

Satellite images taken by Maxar on February 26, and obtained by Sky News, indicate that the Russian state remains committed to developing its presence in Mali.

The photo shows construction work on the site of the former Wagner base at Modibo Keita International Airport, Mali's main airport located about 15 kilometers from the capital, Bamako.

In recent months, new buildings and roads appear to have been completed, a large area of land has been cleared, and excavation work has begun in two areas.

Reviewing the images, Defense Intelligence Agency Janes reported that two of the new, larger features resembled a possible new office building and a re-examined storage area.

In recent months, recruitment advertisements for the Russian African Legion have been circulating on the Telegram app, touting “high payments, free medical care” and “service under competent commanders.”
