Los Angeles-based musician Tom Creel has announced his first album, How to Dress Well, in six years. Follow-up waiting roomNew LP, I am towards you, and is scheduled to arrive on May 10 via Sargent House. To accompany the announcement, he unveiled new songs “New Confusion” and “No Light”, featuring contributions from CFCF, Trayer Tryon and Anarthia DLT. Speaking of The New Confusion, Creel said: “It's about how to relate to the past while knowing the strict limits on human memory and the challenges of metabolizing intergenerational human trauma. 'At best regret, at worst forgetfulness,' I sing in the chorus – which is A tortured concept of memory, no doubt. But I also sing that there is a way out of this predicament.
He added of “No Light”: “'No Light' is a song about contemporary Los Angeles, a place of unspeakable suffering. It's, like Los Angeles, ironically and fundamentally also pop. It's a song I wrote after an interaction I had during the pandemic, which is like… A scene from it Mulholland DriveA young woman is crawling on the ground in the alley behind my house wearing a white dress and screaming about “pig mask.”
Chris Votek, Joel Ford, Josh Clancy, Brian Allen Simon (Anon) and Aaron Charles Reid also collaborated with Creel on the new LP. the address I am towards you It came about as a result of Creel's wife mishearing a lyric from Miley Cyrus, “I Adore You.” “[She said,] “Wow, that's a powerful lyric,” I asked her about the lyric, and she responded that she heard the chorus saying, “I'm toward you,” he explained. “Because I expressed to her that I thought the song was powerful, her mind was generously attuned to hearing something powerful, something profound.”
