The Supreme Court agreed on Wednesday to reconsider the case involving former President Donald Trump's claims of presidential immunity.

The court set an expedited timeline, with arguments to begin the week of April 22. This decision will likely delay Trump's trial until after the election.

Special Counsel Jack Smith urged the court to reject Trump's effort to review presidential immunity.

The Supreme Court also declined to exercise the option to affirm the decision made by the three-judge D.C. Court of Appeals panel against Trump card.

In what could be considered a landmark ruling on a hotly contested topic for some time, the court stated that it would review “whether, and to what extent, a former president enjoys presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for conduct alleged to involve official acts.” During his presidency.

Further analysis of the Supreme Court's decision to grant certiorari on the issue of presidential immunity.

Plouffe: I think the Supreme Court is likely to overturn the D.C. Circuit's decision, and as a result, Trump is unlikely to face trial in D.C. or Florida before the election.

Trump celebrates the Supreme Court's decision to review presidential immunity

By most expert analysis, the Supreme Court's decision to review the issue of presidential immunity is a win for former President Trump and a major setback for Team Smith.

Even if the court quickly rules in favor of the special counsel, it now appears highly unlikely that the trial scheduled for January 6 will be heard, let alone resolved, before the election in November.

As such, Trump issued a statement on Truth Social celebrating the news.

“Legal scholars are very grateful for today’s decision by the Supreme Court to grant presidential immunity,” he said. “Without presidential immunity, the President will not be able to properly act, or make decisions, in the best interests of the United States of America.”

Trump asserts, and the actions taken by the administration since President Joe Biden entered the White House, that without immunity, this “could actually lead to blackmailing the president.”

He stressed, “The other side may say: If you do not do something, exactly the way we want, we will go after you when you leave your position, or perhaps even before that.”

This is exactly how I played it.

Jack Smith: “Hey, Scotts, please make a decision on the issue of presidential immunity and do it quickly.”

Scotts: “Okay, we'll take it and speed it up.”

    The game can be over

In another sign that the Supreme Court's decision to review presidential immunity is a major win for Trump, left-wing media analysts aren't quite covering up their bleak predictions.

Axios found election law expert Rick Hasen, who wrote: “This may be game over.”

“There is nothing Trump wants more in this situation than a delay. “If he wins in November and is not prosecuted before Inauguration Day, there is a good chance he will never be prosecuted,” Axios adds.

Former Justice Department prosecutor and MSNBC legal analyst Andrew Weissman predicted the Supreme Court could hand Trump another victory.

“By granting residency, [SCOTUS] Basically says that [Trump] “She's de facto immune…and I think they ended up giving Trump the win here, and I think they'll give Trump the win in the Colorado case as well.”

“By granting residency, [SCOTUS] Basically says that [Trump] “It's de facto immune…and I think they end up giving Trump the win here, and I think they'll give Trump the win in the Colorado case as well,” Weissman said.

MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow called the Supreme Court's announcement “BS” and “bullpucky,” and accused them of trying to “help your political friend.”
