The French Coast Guard has confirmed that one person has died and two are missing after a small boat accident in the channel.
A statement by the organization said that the French Navy carried out four rescue operations on Wednesday, using boats and a helicopter, to help about 180 people.
But one rescued person could not be resuscitated and two people have not yet been found in the water.

A British Home Office spokesman earlier confirmed the incident, adding: “French authorities are leading the response and investigation.
“We will not comment further at this stage.”
A total of 290 people made the dangerous crossing last week, according to Interior Ministry statistics.
This brings the total number this year to 2,006 people.
