    LUBBOCK, Texas (KLBK) – Here is your updated forecast from the First Weather Warning Center KLBK:

    today:
    Partly sunny to mostly cloudy, breezy and cooler weather is expected Wednesday across the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains. Areas of smoke and the smell of smoke will continue as winds blow into our area from Tuesday's fires in the Texas Panhandle. High temperatures will be in the upper 50s and lower 50s. Winds will be northeasterly in the morning and easterly in the afternoon, at a speed of 15 to 25 knots per hour.

    Tonight:
    The weather is expected to be cloudy to cloudy in most areas during this evening and tonight in various parts of the region. Scattered rain and snow showers are expected to fall during the night on parts of the southern plains and rolling plains. Little or no snow accumulation is expected. Low temperatures will range from the upper 20s to mid 30s. The wind will be southeasterly, at a speed of 10 to 15 knots. The chance of rain is 40 percent overnight.

    Thursday:
    Scattered rain and snow showers are expected during Thursday morning on the southern plains and rolling plains. Little or no snow accumulation is expected. The weather will be mostly cloudy in the morning, then it will become partly cloudy in the afternoon. The weather will be breezy at times and a little milder with temperatures ranging from the lower 50s to upper 50s. The wind will be southeasterly, at a speed of 10 to 20 knots. The chance of rain is 40 percent in the morning.

    Expanded forecast:
    Scattered rain and snow showers are expected from early morning until midday Thursday in parts of the southern plains and rolling plains.

    High temperatures on Wednesday will be much cooler with forecasts of the upper 40s and lower 50s. Thursday will be a little milder with highs ranging from the lower 50s to upper 50s. Temperatures on Friday will rise back into the lower to upper 70s range. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will range from the mid 70s to mid 80s. Highs on Monday will drop into a range of the lower 60s to very low 70s. Highs expected on Tuesday will be in the 60s to mid 60s.

    Low temperatures on Thursday range from the upper 20s to the middle 30s. Lows on Friday morning will range from the mid 30s to very low 40s. Saturday morning lows will range from the upper 30s to middle 40s. Lows on Sunday will range from the lower 40s to the very low 50s. Morning lows on Monday will range from the mid 30s to mid 40s. Expected lows on Tuesday will be in the lower to middle 30s.

    Drought update:
    There are still no notable changes in drought conditions across the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) update released Thursday, February 22. A good portion of the Southern Plains and all of the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains remain classified as drought-free. Moderate drought (D1) conditions continue to be reported across parts of the south-northwest Plains. Meanwhile, abnormal drought (D0) continues to be reported across the northwest Southern Plains, far western Southern Plains, and parts of the southwestern Plains.
