Several tornadoes were reported across the Chicago area during Tuesday night's severe weather outbreak, with golf ball-sized hailstones falling in several communities.
According to trained weather spotters, at least four reports of a tornado touching down in the Chicago area emerged, which swept across western and northern Illinois on Tuesday evening.
A fifth tornado was reported in far western Illinois, according to the University of Michigan and the National Weather Service.
Survey teams will determine if there are additional landfalls associated with the storm outbreak in the coming days.
According to officials, one of the tornadoes touched down near Sugar Grove in southern Kane County. This tornado is believed to have caused damage at Waubonsee Community College, with damage to trees, power poles and fences reported in the area.
Sugar Grove also experienced straight-line wind gusts, with winds measured at 63 mph by a private weather station.
Another tornado was reported to have touched down in Big Rock. This community is located in Kane County near Hinckley, according to officials, and this tornado may have caused damage at a construction site near Joel Osko on the outskirts of Batavia.
There were also reports of a tornado touching down near Inverness and Schaumburg in Cook County, with a tornado causing wind damage reported near Palatine. A private weather station in that area measured a gust of 82 mph, according to a trained weather observer.
Another landing was finally reported near Waterman in DeKalb County, officials said.
In addition to tornadoes, large hail were also reported across the region. Trained weather forecasters reported golf ball-sized hail in Darien, located in DuPage County, and in Romeoville, located in Will County.
Golf ball-sized hail was also reported near Sublette, according to officials.
Ping-pong ball-sized hailstones were also recorded near Plainfield, according to trained weather observers.

There were no immediate reports of injuries in any of the storms.
Even as these storms move out, huge temperature fluctuations are expected. A cold front moving behind the storms is expected to drop temperatures by about 50 degrees in some locations, with wind chills dropping to the single digits by Wednesday morning.
This cold front could also bring snow to the area, with up to an inch possible in some locations, according to forecast models.
However, the cooling off period will be short-lived, as readings will return to the 60s by Saturday, according to forecast models.
