Friends of Thomas Kingston, husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor, spoke of their shock at his death, ahead of a post-mortem on Wednesday afternoon.
Police ruled out any suspicious circumstances in the death of the 45-year-old man. He married Lady Gabriella, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, at St George's Chapel in Windsor in 2019 in a mass attended by members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II.
A close family friend, who had recently seen the couple, said: “We were really shocked. He was so young.”
A family friend described Lady Gabriella and Kingston as “very close as a couple”, saying they were “happily married” and “looked absolutely fine” at a dinner party a few months ago.
Kingston, a committed Christian, was found dead at an address in Gloucestershire on Sunday evening. A statement issued on behalf of his widow, his parents, Martin and Jill Kingston, and his two sisters, described Kingston as “an exceptional man who lit up the lives of everyone who knew him.”
They said the sudden death “came as a huge shock to the entire family” and asked for privacy “as we mourn his passing”.
Kingston, who worked in finance, previously worked as a hostage negotiator in Baghdad in the early 2000s after completing a degree at the University of Bristol.
A spokesman for the Gloucestershire Coroner's Service said: “We have no information to share with the public at this time. More information will be released as necessary.
