A former member of a disbanded militant group linked to robberies and attempted murder has been arrested in Germany after more than 30 years on the run.
Daniela Klett, 65, did not offer any resistance while being detained in a Berlin apartment on Monday evening, said Fredo de Vries, head of the Criminal Investigation Department in Lower Saxony.
Klett was found alone, and police also confiscated a pistol, two magazines and cartridges from the apartment building in the Kreuzberg area of the capital.
Ms De Vries also said there had been a second arrest in Berlin, but the identity of the person had not yet been confirmed.
Klett was later transferred by helicopter to a prison in the north German City of Bremen.
She was a member of the left-wing Red Army Faction, whose violent campaign against what it described as US imperialism and capitalist oppression of workers led to the deaths of 34 people and the wounding of hundreds more.
Police have been hunting her for years, along with her former colleagues, Ernst Volker Stube and Burkhard Jarwig, who were all placed on Europol's Europe's Most Wanted list in 2020.
The authorities intensified their efforts to detain the fugitives after receiving a report from the public in November.
This led to an appeal on a popular TV crime show two weeks ago, which brought in an additional 250 tips that police are still working on.
The trio were linked to at least 12 robberies in northern Germany between 1999 and 2016, and are also wanted for attempted murder.
Authorities believe the alleged robberies were carried out to raise money, rather than for political motives.

The Red Army Faction emerged from German student protests against the Vietnam War, but disbanded in 1998.
The group was behind the 1993 bombing of a newly built prison in Darmstadt, south of Frankfurt. No one was injured in the attack, which was the RAF's last major action before its disbandment.
