Nagham Atef Mazyad, 22 years old, from Deir al-Balah. She is a medical student and volunteer doctor. She shares with us how her morning was:
The time is now 9 am. This is my breakfast. I usually have breakfast at 6am but now we are trying to delay breakfast so that we don't need to eat more than one meal a day.
This breakfast consists of cheese, herbs, pepper, and olive oil on bread known as manoucheh.
That's all I eat until the evening, if we're lucky enough to get another meal, otherwise it's all until tomorrow. We consider ourselves luckier than our brothers and sisters in the north who have no food at all.
At the breakfast table before, we used to eat this “manoushe” bread with potatoes, salad, eggs, falafel, and beans… but now many families depend on this bread only to survive.
Prices are so high, even for the basics, that a decent meal of meat or chicken has become a luxury.
