MANSFIELD — The National Weather Service warned of the potential for severe weather across the region through early Wednesday as temperatures dropped quickly Wednesday night.
Large hail is the primary threat overnight for northwest and north-central Ohio with an additional chance of a tornado or damaging winds Tuesday night into early Wednesday in northwest and north-central Ohio.
“Greetings everyone,” said Rebecca Owens, director of the Richland County Emergency Management Agency. “(It's) another week of volatile weather in the great state of (north-central) Ohio.
“Enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures today.”
On Tuesday, February 26, the high temperature will be 65 degrees. The National Weather Service expects the weather to be mostly cloudy with the possibility of rain and thunderstorms, especially this morning. Highs in the mid-60s. Southerly winds 15 to 20 knots, with gusts reaching speeds of up to 30 knots. Chance of rain is 50 percent.
Tuesday night, showers and thunderstorms possible. Lows are in the mid-50s. South winds will reach 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. The chance of rain is 70 percent.
Wednesday the high will be 61 but temperatures will drop quickly with clouds mixing in and rain possible. Showers and thunderstorms are possible in the morning, then there is a chance of snow showers with a slight possibility of thunderstorms in the afternoon. There will be little or no snow accumulation. The day will start off windy with highs in the lower 60s. Temperatures will then drop into the lower 30s in the afternoon. West winds will reach 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. The probability of rain is 70 percent.
On Wednesday night, the low temperature will be 21 degrees. The weather will be cloudy in most areas, with the possibility of snow showers in the evening, then mostly clear after midnight. Little or no snow accumulation. Breezy and much cooler with lows in the lower 20s. West wind speeds will range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph in the evening. Chance of snow is 30 percent.
