It has been widely reported that the US Army is struggling to recruit in almost all of its branches. Many reasons have been offered to explain this, including the military's embrace of diversity, equity and inclusion policies.
Other theories include the new “wokeness” of military policies and the Covid vaccine mandate.
An army veteran, Jake Pickett, who ran for Senate from Arkansas, had another very plausible explanation.
The Washington Times reports:
Why do young Americans advocate for a nation that needs to be “dismantled”?
Recently, Ashish Wazirani, acting undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, testified before the House Armed Services Committee that the U.S. military missed its 2023 recruiting goals by 41,000 soldiers.
Jake Pickett, an Army veteran and former U.S. Senate candidate from Arkansas, responded to this report by noting that no one should be surprised. Why? Because of what we teach in our nation's schools.
“In our education system today, there are very few young people hearing real history,” Mr Beckett said. “They hear that our American heroes are being portrayed as evil racists… who were doing all these terrible things to disadvantaged people. And that actually shapes the views of young Americans and makes them less respectful of our institutions, less respectful of our history, and therefore makes them less likely to want to lay down their lives.” At stake to serve in the army of our country.”
The article goes on to provide real examples of far-left ideology currently taught in American schools and colleges, illustrating Beckett's point for him.
So the left doesn't want to draft because they don't want to serve a country they see as evil, and at the same time, the military has alienated the kind of Americans who would traditionally enlist and serve. It's a perfect recipe for disaster.
Jazz Shaw of Hot Air adds this:
If you knew America was so terrible and utterly broken, why in the world would you volunteer to put on a uniform, pick up a rifle, and go fight our enemies? You are more likely to invite our enemies into our homeland to do the job for you. Perhaps this is why younger voters have less reactive responses to the Biden border crisis. They've been conditioned to believe that maybe we've got it.
If Trump is re-elected, this crisis will be one of the first challenges he faces. If Biden is re-elected, the problem will get worse.
