NORTH JERSEY, NJ – The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather forecast Monday morning for Bergen County and three other North Jersey counties, urging commuters to check the weather before heading out.
If the temperature drops, “isolated snow” or freezing rain could make roads especially slippery in the morning, they said.

“If confidence increases in freezing rain, a special weather statement or winter weather warning will be issued overnight,” they wrote. “Travelers are advised to check the latest forecasts and travel conditions before heading out tomorrow morning.”
The forecast applies to Bergen, Essex, Passaic and Union counties.
“A weak cold front will bring isolated snow and/or freezing rain to the area as it moves in early Monday morning,” they explained.
“Air and ground temperatures will likely be at or just below freezing north and west of I-95 at that time, which could bring some freezing rain and intermittent icing to untreated roads and lanes.”

The rest of the week is expected to be calm except for a half-inch of rain late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service forecasts.
Due to the cold temperatures, a Code Blue Alert is in effect for Bergen and Union counties through Monday, meaning shelters will be available for those without heat or shelter. Learn more about Code Blues and the warming centers in each county here.
