    Dominic Fishback receives the Certified Culture Award

    Emmy and BAFTA nominee Dominic Fishback is set to receive the Certified Culture Award at the inaugural Creative Collective celebration.

    The Certified Culture Award will honor established and emerging black talent and seeks to recognize individuals whose “contributions significantly influence, influence and shape the cultural landscape at large.” The special award is presented by Create Collective (CCNYC) in partnership with Prime Video's Culture Rated initiative, which supports Black creators, perspectives and community across social media, on Prime Video and with in-person events, like CultureCon.

    The award marks the latest accolade for Fishback, who has had a breakout year in 2023. She received her first Emmy nomination for her electrifying performance as Dre in the Prime Video series “Swarm.” Fishback also received nominations from the Indie Spirit Awards, Gotham Awards, NAACP Image Awards and more for her transformative work on the psychological comedy-thriller from co-writers Janine Nabers and Donald Glover. Last year, Fishback also starred in “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” a globe-trotting adventure that takes place before the events of the first “Transformers” film and after the events of “Bumblebee.”

    Previously, Fishback earned a critics' nod for her performance opposite Samuel L. Jackson in the Apple TV+ series “The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray,” and received a BAFTA nod for her portrayal of Black Panther Party activist Deborah Johnson in the Oscars. – The nominated film “Judas and the Black Messiah” alongside Daniel Kaluuya and Keith Stanfield. The Brooklyn native's credits also include HBO's “The Deuce,” “Project Power,” “The Hate U Give” and “Night Comes On.”

    In addition to acting, Fishback is also an accomplished poet and playwright. Her senior thesis at Pace University was a 90-minute self-penned poetry performance called “Subverted,” which explored black identity and existence in a system rooted in inequality from 20 different perspectives. In 2021, diverse Fishback has partnered with her “Project Power” co-star, Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, to turn the one-man show into a new special, she announced exclusively. Fishback will play more than 20 characters on the show and will produce the project alongside Foxx and his producing partner Datari Turner.

    The Creative Class's inaugural celebration will be held on February 28 in New York to conclude Black History Month. The event is a celebration of Black cultural transformers across a variety of disciplines including tech, social good, art, entertainment, fashion and beyond, who are “shaping culture, advocating for their community and building their vision from the ground up.” The 2024 lineup includes 55 members, including Grammy Award-winning singer and “Bel-Air” star Coco Jones, Cara Young (“I'm a Virgo”), Jean Ihle (“Insecure”), and Jocelyn Bioh (“Jaja's African Hair Braiding”). “) and Crystal Rene (“Sistas”, “Zatima”).
