(NEXSTAR) – Spring is quickly approaching, and it looks like beach weather may arrive early in some states this year.
The Climate Prediction Center's latest forecasts show that the majority of northern and Midwestern states (particularly the Northwest and Northeast) should expect above-average temperatures from March to May.
A large area of the northern United States is expected to see warmer conditions compared to last spring, with the Washington region having the greatest chance of a very warm spring.
Spring precipitation forecasts also appear outside the normal range in the Pacific Northwest, where below-average precipitation is likely. The same is true for parts of West Texas and New Mexico.
On the other side of the country, it looks like it will be just the opposite, with much of the southeastern United States expected to see more rain than usual.
Warmer-than-normal weather is expected to continue throughout the year, and the majority of the United States will likely see above-average temperatures in the late spring and summer, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
