    Arctic blast for nearly 230 million people as snow and ice fall south

    Nearly 230 million people were shivering in below-average temperatures on Monday

    The bitter cold continues Monday as 229 million Americans will shiver in below-average temperatures. In parts of the central United States, temperatures on Monday will be up to 40-50 degrees below average, with gusty winds making the weather even colder.

    The arctic blast could even threaten turnout in the Iowa caucuses on Monday.

    Winter storm turns deadly in Arkansas as snow and ice cover the South

    Winter weather warnings remain in effect Monday as the storm brings wintry weather to parts of the South.

    Many across the region are waking up to several inches of snow and even some ice from Texas to Mississippi. Ice and snow chances will continue into early Tuesday.

    This winter storm turned deadly in Arkansas on Sunday after a car skidded off a highway and hit a tree during snowfall. According to the Arkansas Department of Public SafetyThe 59-year-old driver was killed and a 47-year-old female passenger was injured during the crash in White County, about 50 miles northeast of Little Rock.

    The snow line could end in New York City

    After 700 days without an inch of snow, New York City could finally see some measurable snow overnight Monday into Tuesday.

    The same system bringing winter weather to the South will also spread accumulating snow along much of the Interstate 95 corridor from Washington to Boston, with widespread snowfall of 1 to 4 inches expected, including Big cities like New York. City and Philadelphia.

    Snow could create travel problems for commuters along the I-95 corridor during rush hour Tuesday morning.

    Buffalo buried as lake effect snow continues to fall

    The lake's snow machine has been in operation, and areas near Buffalo have already seen more than 2 feet of snow since Saturday. Up to 41 inches of snow was reported in Derby, New York, about 20 miles southwest of Buffalo.

    The Buffalo Bills were forced to postpone their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers to Monday evening in Orchard Park, New York, as weather made the NFL playoffs nearly impossible.
