MGMT, Loss of life
MGMT is back with their fifth album and their first album, Mom+Pop. Loss of life. Follow-up to 2018 Little Dark Age It was co-produced by former collaborator Patrick Wimberley, mixed by Dave Friedman, and features additional production from Oneohtrix Point Never, Danger Mouse and MGMT live member James Richardson. The record also features the first ever duet on an MGMT release, from Christine and the Queens, who appeared on “Dancing in Babylon”, which preceded the album along with “Mother Nature”, “Bubblegum Dog”, and “Nothing to Declare”. Martin Courtney, Alex Bleeker, Matt Kallman, Julian Lynch and Sammy Ness recorded it at RCA Studio A in Nashville with producer Daniel Tashian. According to a press release, they named the album Daniel “Simply because it seemed like a good idea to give a human name to the record. Was it Daniel Tashian's? Maybe. Was it a sign that a band has been around long enough to take their music seriously without taking themselves or their image seriously? Absolutely.”
Hooray for Riff Raff, The past is still alive
Alynda Segarra is back with a new song for her Riff Raff album, The past is still aliveNow through nothing. The record was produced by Brad Cook, mixed by Mike Mogis, and has contributions from Angemmel, Conor Oberst, and SJ Goodman on vocals, as well as musicians Libby Rodenbaugh, Matt Douglas, Meg Duffy, Mogis, Phil Cook, and Jan Westerlund. According to a press release, inspirations include “radical poetry, railroad culture, outsider art, the works of writer Eileen Miles, and the history of activist groups like ACT UP and Gran Fury.”
allie x, A girl without a face
Allie X followed up with her 2020 LP Keep God With the new album, A girl without a face. Marking the first self-produced record from the Toronto-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, with additional production from Justin Meldahl-Johnsen, it features the early singles “Off With Her Tits,” “Black Eye,” “Weird World,” and ” title track. “It's very difficult to sum up a body of work I've spent thousands of hours on, but here's an attempt,” X said in a press release. “There's death in this music, as well as the beginning of rebirth. I needed to make something that came entirely from me. Even just once, to prove to myself that I can do it. I would describe these songs as angry, opinionated, honest, dry, melodramatic, fast, and indulgent… in the same way some people describe me ha. I hope everyone likes it, but if not, try improving it a little.
Mary Timoney, Tiger jaw
Mary Timoney issued Tiger jawIt is her first solo album in over 15 years via Merge. The recording was made after the break-up of a long-term relationship and her confinement due to the death of her father and mother. Timoney wrote many of the songs over the course of two years while working as the primary caregiver for her sick parents. “This was the hardest thing I've ever been through. Every week I had to deal with a new crisis,” she said, adding: “Because I was making impossible decisions on my father's behalf, creative choices are now more manageable.” As I had to face the reality of loss, I realized what was important to me about survival, and I became less afraid. The record became an anchor for me at a time when I was losing so much around me. I felt like all I had was evidence that helped me and gave me hope.

Glitterer has released a new album titled Rationale. After 2021 Life is not a lesson, the band's first full-band LP from Title Fight's Ned Russin's previous solo project, featuring Nicole Dow on keys, Jonas Farah on drums, and Connor Morin on guitar. Frequent collaborator Arthur Rizk produced the LP. “I had a few different ideas about how to expand Glitterer, but after spending a year rehearsing songs about unity myself, I decided that a cohesive band was the only way forward,” Rossin commented in the press materials. “It was, and always will be, that I preferred to be in a collaborative, creative unit, and I just had to figure out how to get there.”
Laetitia Sadier, Rooting for love
Laetitia Sadier was launched from Stereolab Rooting for love, her first solo LP in seven years. Out now via Drag City, the album was preceded by the singles “Une Autre Attente”, “Panser L'Innaceptable” and “Who + What”. It follows 2017 Search for me, search for youWhich came out under the name Lætitia Sadier Source Ensemble, as well Modern cosmology, a collaborative album with the Brazilian group Mombojó. The record features organ, guitar, bass, synth, trombone, vibraphone, live and programmed drums, and a vocal group described as a choir.

Coloring – the moniker of Nottingham-based songwriter and producer Jack Kenworthy – has revealed his latest album, Love to you, mate. The story behind the album largely revolves around Kenworthy's life-long brother-in-law Greg Baker, who died of cancer in early 2022, nearly a year after being diagnosed. “Love to you, mate It is a love letter to my wife, family and Greg for what they all did; “A photo from the time,” Kenworthy shared in a statement. “We were a close-knit, inseparable group of friends for a whole year… a year that we look back on with great pride. I really feel like we made this music together.
