Danny Murphy has declared that he would be surprised if Xabi Alonso rejected an offer to manage the club.
The talkSPORT pundit has also explained why Jurgen Klopp should not take over the soon-to-be vacant Bayern Munich job this summer.
Klopp announced his sudden decision to resign from Anfield last month, with the German coach's departure at the end of the season.
Bayer Leverkusen coach Alonso emerged as a favorite to replace him after he spent five years on Merseyside between 2004-2009, where he won the Champions League and the FA Cup.
But it is also understood that he is on Bayern's radar along with Thomas Tuchel for a move from the Allianz Arena at the conclusion of the season.
In Bavaria, Alonso ended his career after three seasons full of titles, winning three German League titles and a German Cup.
However, Murphy believes Liverpool is where the Spaniard will end up if he seeks a new challenge away from the BayArena.
Speaking to White and Jordan about Alonso's options, Murphy said: “I don't see anyone turning down the opportunity to go to Liverpool when you're at a lower club, because it might not come again.”
“The only thing I can think of that might take him to Munich before Liverpool is some sort of family decision – getting the kids settled – but who knows?
“My gut instinct is his relationship with Liverpool fans when he was there as a player, which was so high, will get him over the line.
“I can't see him rejecting it, but maybe that's just my bias. I try to put myself in his shoes, but he didn't grow up a Liverpool fan, did he?
“The truth is I would be surprised if he got an offer to coach Liverpool and turned it down, I would be surprised.”
Murphy also revealed he would be shocked if Klopp moved to Munich after citing fatigue as a reason for leaving Liverpool.
Commenting on whether Klopp might be tempted by the Bayern job, Murphy said: “I would be surprised.
“He has given up this wonderful relationship that he has with the Liverpool fans and the relationship that he has with the football club and the people.
“Then I start working again six weeks later? No chance.”
“It seems [to be] A man of his word, this seems to be a real cause for him [to leave]I can't think of an ulterior motive for him to then say, “I'll work somewhere else.”
Klopp's agent Mark Kosicki recently told Sky Germany that the former Borussia Dortmund coach will step away from football for a year.
He denied any opportunity to join Bayern, and said: “Jurgen Klopp will not coach any club or national team for a year after this current season.” This remains unchanged.”
