Charleston, West Virginia – WV 10 is closed so West Virginia Department of Highways (WVDOH) heavy equipment crews can remove rocks from a slope above Logan that could lead to future rockslides.

On Saturday, February 17, 2024, a massive rockslide occurred at mile marker 21.99 in Logan, completely closing the road. Although WVDOH crews were able to remove rocks and debris blocking the highway, there were boulders hanging approximately 70 feet above the roadway that would likely fall, creating a potential hazard to the public if not removed. Therefore, WVDOH plans to remove the overhanging rocks before fully reopening the road to traffic.

WVDOH crews cut a road up the hill and brought in an excavator on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 to remove rocks overhanging the cliff and prevent future rockslides at the site.

Work is expected to be completed on Monday, February 26, 2024, depending on weather and other factors.

WVDOH is putting up message boards and signs to keep track of traffic. Reporting tools will be in place to assist traffic as needed throughout the repair process.

WVDOH will update the public on the progress of the reforms
