BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Good morning and happy Tuesday!
You'll need a coat this morning as temperatures have dropped into the low to mid 30s. Parts of northeast Alabama dropped into the upper 20s. First Alert from AccuTrack satellite and radar It appears mostly clear, but we see a weak disturbance producing some clouds and scattered showers in parts of northern Alabama. We should stay mostly dry across central Alabama thanks to the dry air in place.
We're looking at mostly sunny skies this afternoon with temperatures in the low to mid 60s. Temperatures will end up five degrees above average on February 20. Winds will remain light from the southwest at a speed of five to 10 miles per hour. If you have any evening plans, I recommend keeping a light jacket. We're looking at mostly clear skies with temperatures dipping into the low 50s at 7 p.m
Temperatures higher than average Wednesday and Thursday: With the southerly flow, temperatures are expected to rise well above average from tomorrow into Thursday.
We'll likely start off Wednesday morning dry and clear with temperatures in the upper 30s. Wednesday afternoon will likely be partly cloudy with highs in the 60s. Some locations could see highs in the lower 70s tomorrow afternoon. Cloud cover will likely increase Wednesday night which will allow morning temperatures to become warmer with lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Most of the day Thursday will end up cloudy and mostly dry with temperatures in the low 70s. It will likely become breezy Thursday afternoon. Some rain will be possible Thursday evening as a weak cold front approaches Alabama.
Another important thing: Our next chance to see rain this week will likely be Thursday evening into early Friday morning. We could see precipitation impact northwest Alabama after 5pm Thursday evening. Rain will remain possible Thursday night with rain moving out of central Alabama early Friday morning.
No severe weather is expected with this setup, and I don't expect heavy rain with this system. Most of us will end up with rain falling between a tenth of an inch. Lower precipitation totals are likely south of Interstate 20. Friday morning should start off cloudy with lower clouds expected late in the day. High temperatures are expected to rise into the mid 60s on Friday afternoon.
Weekend forecast: If you have any plans for the weekend, the weather is looking great! We're looking at mostly sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday. Morning temperatures will end up being cold with most of us in the upper 30s and lower 40s. High temperatures will likely rise several degrees above average with highs in the mid to upper 60s. The weather won't slow you down if you have any outdoor plans.
Just note that tree pollen is likely to increase over the weekend, so be careful if you have seasonal allergies. We could see pollen levels reach the “high” range this weekend and into early next week. The warm weather is likely to continue until early next week. We could see temperatures rise into the mid to upper 70s next Tuesday.
