Heavy rain over the weekend and into Monday from an atmospheric river targeting California caused flooding and damage in parts of greater Redding.

The weather instability will continue until Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Shasta County until 5 p.m. Monday.

“Some thunderstorms may produce heavy rain late in the evening and overnight,” the weather agency said.

The Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Butte County Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, heavy rain and runoff over the weekend and earlier Monday caused some damage at Redding Lake Park, while the Boulder Creek River overflowed in the parking lot of Waterworks Park on Lake Boulevard. The water park is closed for the season.

There were also reports of fallen trees in areas of Shasta County.

About 550 customers were without power in the Anderson area Monday afternoon, according to Pacific Gas & Electric's outage map.

Most of the rain fell overnight Sunday and into Monday north of Redding.

Over a 24-hour period, Shasta Dam received about 3.75 inches as of 3 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service said.

As of Sunday, Lake Shasta was 84% full and 121% of its historical average, according to the California Department of Water Resources.

The lake reached 1,041 feet, up 10 feet from the previous week on Sunday.

West of Redding, Brandy Creek near Whiskeytown Lake got 4 inches during a 24-hour period that ended at 3 p.m. Monday.

Meanwhile, Redding Regional Airport — the city's official rain gauge despite being one of the driest places in the region — received 1.42 inches during a 24-hour period ending at 3 p.m. Monday.

A flood watch is in effect until 4 a.m. Wednesday in the north Sacramento Valley, according to the National Weather Service. A wind advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. Tuesday.

More rain is expected Tuesday with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon, said Dakari Anderson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento. Wind speeds can reach 40 mph.

Anderson said rain will start to fall on Wednesday before becoming mostly cloudy on Thursday and Friday.

Saturday's weather turns mostly cloudy with highs in the 60s.
