Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero has insisted Massimiliano Allegri was “excellent” last season, but he will say more about the coach’s future and will be allowed to “decide one day”.
Juventus have only picked up two points in their last four Serie A matches, so coach Allegri is facing criticism from some Bianconeri fans.
Juventus are not planning to sack him now, but his future at Allianz Stadium remains uncertain despite his contract expiring in June 2025.
“Last year, Allegri was not just good; he was excellent. He was heroic in creating an environment that helped Juventus qualify for the Champions League despite everything that happened,” Del Piero said, quoted by Elbianconero.com.
“He has some advantages this season as well, such as releasing Kenan Yildiz and other young players. Of course, the situation is not ideal now, so Allegri has his responsibilities, like everyone else, staff and footballers.
“There are situations that develop over time. When you play for Juventus, you have to improve. You cannot be at the same level as when you arrived.”
However, when asked whether Allegri would stay or leave at the end of the season, Del Piero answered ambiguously: “If one day I am allowed to make the decision, I can tell you something; I will do it.” “Right now, I can’t say whether he will stay or leave,” he said.
Del Piero has the most appearances and goals for Juventus. He scored 290 goals in 705 matches for the Bianconeri, remaining at the club from 1993 until 2012.
