The clubhouse at Wildwood Municipal Golf Course in Charles City was built about 100 years ago.
Not surprisingly, the building is showing its age, which has city officials, including Mayor Dean Andrews, thinking about its approach to its future.
Andrews says the city also asked Atura Architecture of Clear Lake to evaluate costs related to the club's location.
Although no action was taken, the City Council discussed the costs of addressing the future of the Wildwood Clubhouse during a planning session on Wednesday night (02.14).
Initial estimates put the cost of building a new club at $2 million, while renovating the facility could reach $2.4 million.
City officials also point out that even if they go ahead with the renovations, the bulk of the existing clubhouse will likely have to be demolished and rebuilt. This would give the same appearance, but not much would remain of the original building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
