STERLING, Va. – A massive explosion ripped through a home just 30 miles outside of D.C., killing one firefighter and injuring 11 others.
A firefighter radioed a distress call for a fire in the 300 block of Silver Ridge Drive in Sterling, Virginia, saying a firefighter was “trapped by debris.”
Loudoun now reports that the victims — both firefighters and civilians — have been transported to area hospitals. Two victims were transported to the burn center at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., one of them by AirCare helicopter.

Neighbors told Fox 5 DC they heard a loud bang and felt the ground and their homes shaking.
Sources call this a “temple fire” but the cause has not been determined at this time.
The Sterling Volunteer Fire Company received assistance from the Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department and the Ashburn Fire Department, Fox 5 DC reported. Several fire engines with long ladders were seen hovering over the rubble.
Just two months ago, another massive explosion occurred at a home just 26 miles away in Arlington, Virginia after an officer attempted to execute a search warrant on a suspect.
