MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – We got the start of the long weekend with well below average temperatures Saturday morning. Morning lows in Madison reached 9°F, while the wind chill was -2°F. The rest of the day was bright and windy with wind gusts over 25 mph. With temperatures staying in the 20s, the wind chills never got out of the teens. Clear skies and gusty winds will continue until Sunday. High pressure controls our weather until at least mid-week.
Temperatures will rise overnight, and we expect temperatures to reach lows Sunday morning in the lower 20s. Sunday will start our warmer than average trend again which is expected to continue throughout the week. We will see sunny skies and highs at the end of the weekend in the upper 30s.
What's next…
If you have Monday off, President's Day seems nice and mild. Sunny skies continue and as we flow south, we expect highs to reach the lower 40s. More moisture and some clouds begin to move in from the south starting Tuesday and by midweek we are back in the lower 50s from our highs.
A drier area of low pressure will move in later Wednesday and could give us some rain, but for now it looks like any accumulation will be minimal. What we will notice is that after the system passes, temperatures will drop back into the 30s by Friday.
I look forward…
This will be a very dry stretch ahead of us, and so far, it doesn't look like we'll see any appreciable precipitation until the end of the month.
