Michigan became a swing state, splitting its presidential picks in 2016 and 2020, based largely on votes in Detroit.

The city could once again emerge as a key hinge in elections. During a focus group with metro Detroit voters recently, Joe Biden's age was a big issue with participants.

And the reason why Donald Trump, the current president, leads the group.

Age remains an issue for Biden

Tuesday's focus group revealed that for swing voters in metro Detroit, at Biden's age they're not sure he's right for the job.

“Voters have concerns about Biden’s age and physique, but none of the focus group participants were concerned that he poses a threat to democracy,” Axios reported.

“While seven of 14 voters said they would describe former President Trump as a threat to democracy, 10 of 14 also said they would reject the twice-impeached president for voting for Biden again in 2024,” Axios noted.

Nearly everyone in the group agreed that Biden is suffering from mental decline, and the focus group came after the president's angry response to a report by special counsel Robert Hoare that described him as “a sympathetic, well-intentioned, older man with a failing memory.”

They also seem to care more about Biden's age than Trump's legal problems.

    The story continued:

Axios sat down for two Engagious/Sago online focus groups Tuesday night with 14 Michiganders who voted for Trump in 2016 and Biden in 2020.

Eight of them are independents and six are Republicans. Most are from cities across metro Detroit and two are from Holland and Jackson.

While a focus group is not a statistically significant sample like a poll, the answers show how some voters feel about current events.

A potential conviction for a criminal offense did not prevent most focus group participants from saying they would vote for Trump again.

Participants care more about Biden's seniority than Trump's legal baggage

It was clear how Trump's accusations did not have the amount of negative impact that Democrats might have hoped for, but Biden's report had a negative impact on Democrats.

“No one said they were upset by special prosecutor Robert Hoare’s decision not to bring charges following his investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents, despite a report last week that the president’s actions pose ‘serious national security risks,’” Axios noted.

“The president rejected accusations of memory problems during a press conference after the investigation was released last week,” the story noted.

The elections are about a year away. A lot can happen.

But Joe Biden is not getting younger or more manly.
