On Friday, February 9, the Democratic-controlled state Senate on a party-line vote of 21-19 passed Senate Bill 280, which was cheerfully named “Death with dignity.”
This issue is full of emotion and controversy, and some people I feel close to strongly support what is called “physician-assisted suicide.” They believe it is cruel to make a terminally ill person suffer mentally and physically, helplessly waiting to die while their body is wracked with pain, their mind perhaps gone, and with their life savings drained.
Democratic supporters of this bill are trying to reassure us of some “guarantees,” including:
- Patient must be over 18 years of age, reside in Virginia, have a diagnosed terminal condition or be in hospice care
- The patient must be determined to be capable of making an informed decision about receiving medical assistance in dying
- It must be specified that the patient has made this request of his own free will without any influence from external sources, etc.
With these “guarantees” and the undeniable pain that many experience at death, why would anyone be against it? Are they monsters who enjoy cruelty?
First point: With the sharp rise in health care costs, We expect governments and hospitals to see this as a great way to reduce costs and improve their final results. With the federal debt currently at $34.2 trillion, we expect desperate measures to be taken as more people begin to realize that our government is trillions of dollars beyond bankruptcy.
Someone said, We might think it's great to “reduce your carbon footprint,” until you discover that you are the “carbon footprint” that someone is trying to “reduce.” Plus, it sounds great to “cut health care costs” until the terrifying moment, too late, when you find out… You Or a loved one is a “health care cost” that someone is trying to “cut.”
Additionally, some will see killing patients as a way to open up more hospital beds to help make room for the untold millions of illegal aliens that Democrats welcome.
Point 2: It's already happening. As my insightful father used to say: “Wise people learn from the mistakes of others, but fools must make their own mistakes, because they will not learn any other way.”
So let's learn a lesson from Canada. Not only is our neighbor on the left path, she is showing frightening signs of falling into dictatorship, she has even legalized what they gleefully call “Medical Assisted In Dying” (MAID).
Retired Canadian Corporal Christine Gauthier, who injured her back in a training accident in 1989, represented her country at the 2016 Brazilian Paralympics. In a warning about 'socialized medicine' Gauthier has been waiting five years (!) for her government's Office of Veterans Affairs to install a wheelchair ramp at her home.
Shockingly, instead of finally stabilizing the ramp, the government sent her a letter claiming “If you're so desperate, ma'am, we can give you medical aid in dying.”
Her reaction was basically, “I don't want to kill myself, I just want a wheelchair ramp!”
In a major reversal on February 8, Canada backed away from its proposed plan on March 17 to begin legal killing of people with mental illness.
Many people link the Nazi Holocaust to the extermination of about six million Jews, among others. However, it is not known that the Holocaust began with Killing mentally and physically disabled people Because the Nazis described them as a “burden” on the “Third Reich.”
A dear friend of mine also died in a hospital in Arizona during the Covid hysteria. Infuriatingly, according to his wife and friends, the hospital would not let her discharge him, but instead killed him by cutting off his food and water in order to collect their “Covid bonus.”
Point 3: “Final condition diagnosed” is not 100% certain. We probably all know people who were “given 6 months to live” but ended up living for 2 or 3 years, And in some cases recovery. Others were so depressed that they wanted to die, but they later succeeded and are grateful to be alive.
Point 4: Some patients feel the need to “not be a burden.” Many older people are from generations that “think of others first” and “don’t be a burden.” How easy it is to persuade many to give up, especially if their arms are twisted by greedy heirs eager to get their hands on the inheritance.
Point 5: It tells us the Judeo-Christian ethics on which our nation was founded God is the creator of life and death. As our culture continues to destroy this foundation, expect less value for life.
Point 6: Since the Democratic Party has decided to make abortion one of its main selling points, its plan to kill the sick and the elderly is just the flip side of its binary policy. Death vise grip.
Point 7: This bill was pushed by Sen. Ghazala Hashmi (D-Richmond/Chesterfield), who was called out for not listing one of her residences on her nomination form as of 2023. The bottom of the form warns “Knowing that any incorrect statement or entry has been made.” It's a felony, but in what many consider another example of our “two-tiered judicial system,” Hashemi got away with it and is still in the Senate writing laws like this one. Do you want to risk your life or the life of your loved ones for a bill pushed by a politician who forged her nomination papers?
