Some parts of the Chicago area could see slick and slippery traffic on Friday, as scattered light snow and flurries could make for poor travel and road conditions.
According to the NBC 5 Storm Team, snow is expected to continue to fall in the south, continuing on and off from the morning until early afternoon. Early Friday morning, some areas to the south, including parts of LaSalle and Kankakee counties, were already beginning to see storm development.
As the flurries continue, Kankakee, Livingston and Ford counties in Illinois, and Newton and Jasper in Indiana are expected to see the brunt of the weather, NBC 5 Meteorologist Alicia Roman said, adding that the system is not expected to be large. However, drivers must remain careful.
“Just a little snow can make roads slippery, especially in the deep south,” Roman said.
Roman said up to two inches of snow could fall in those parts before the system moves in between 3 and 4 p.m. Although the snow is gone, winter weather will continue with the influx of cold air, Roman said, as Friday is expected to be the first time this month that the Chicago area will see below-average temperatures, with low to moderate temperatures rising. 30 seconds.
Temperatures are expected to drop further Friday night.
“Tonight, we'll be in the teens, with single-digit wind chills,” Roman said.
These cold temperatures will continue into early Saturday morning, with wind chills dropping below zero in some parts. According to Roman, DeKalb County could see wind chill values as low as -3.
Saturday afternoon is also expected to be windy, with wind gusts between 20 and 30 miles per hour and temperatures high in the 30s.
Roman said there is some good news: Sunday will be sunny and mild, with high temperatures in the lower 40s. Early next week, milder temperatures will continue, with highs in the 50s on Monday and Tuesday.
