PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The chance of seeing snow around Portland is fading quickly as temperatures stabilize late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

Portland's chance of seeing a light dusting of snow in some locations developed Wednesday night and Thursday morning with a cooler easterly wind. East winds typically bring temperatures down in Portland as the normally cold air is blocked against the Cascades. As of Wednesday night, temperatures east of the Columbia River Gorge are not much different from temperatures in Portland. Therefore, overnight lows are beginning to settle in and remain warm enough to prevent snow.

Temperature gradient remains minimal along I-84 as of Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 9:00 p.m.

The latest models have stripped much of the Portland metro area from seeing any snow.

There is still a chance of seeing light dust on grassy surfaces in the West Hills area, but it is no longer available for downtown.

Thursday morning's commute is not expected to be affected by winter weather around the Portland-Vancouver metro area. Higher elevations in northern Clark County and closer to the valley will have the greatest likelihood of seeing more snow by Thursday morning.

14 people were arrested at an East Portland homeless encampment after neighbors complained of shootings and drug use.

A stray snow flurry or two will likely mix with remaining cold showers across the Pacific Northwest. Rain accumulation numbers are still expected to approach one inch by the end of the event Friday morning.

East winds will keep temperatures cooler than average around Portland through Saturday. Temperatures will begin to rise later in the weekend with temperatures climbing into the 50s by Sunday.
