We expect a quarter-inch to half-inch of rain in the valley and up to an inch of rain in the hills. There will be no problems with flooding or strong winds. Valley gusts could reach 25 mph. Wind speeds in Sierra passes could reach 40 mph Wednesday night. Snow is expected to reach the Sierra late Wednesday afternoon, with the largest accumulations expected to arrive after sunset. Chain controls are expected on Interstate 80, Interstate 50 and Interstate 88. Snow levels will generally hover around 5,000 feet. The snow may be heavy for several hours overnight, likely accumulating at a rate of one to two inches per hour above 6,000 feet. Gusty winds may create short-term conditions. Snowfall will taper off Thursday morning, but chain control will likely still be needed for the first half of the day. Rain and snow will return on Saturday, most likely during the second half of the day. There will be another round of rain sometime on Sunday or Monday.
