Mark Wahlberg, long known as one of Hollywood's only Christian stars, marked Ash Wednesday yesterday by revealing the power of prayer.
Wahlberg promotes prayer on Ash Wednesday
Days after they starred together in a Super Bowl commercial for the Catholic prayer app Hallow, Wahlberg and actor Jonathan Rummy went on Fox & Friends to talk about why they felt it was necessary to start the day with prayer.
“People always ask you, what are you giving up? Wahlberg began. “I've given up a lot of things for Lent, whether it's…alcohol or something else…sweet, but for me, it's really about trying to do more…trying to be better, trying to grow as a person, as a minister “God, Father, Husband…as an example…and using all the real life experiences I have.”
Wahlberg went on to say that he “absolutely” starts every morning by getting down on his knees in prayer.
“People always ask why you don't have a regular schedule?” The thing for me is that if I'm home, I do all the things I need to do on my personal time, before my kids and wife wake up. “I always get eight hours of sleep. It's not like I'm burning the candle at both ends per se. I'll get the rest I need.”
“In an ideal world, I would go to bed at 7-7:30 a.m., wake up at 3-3:30 p.m., then get my stuff done, and get it out of the way before I start my day with my family or work,” he added. “I have a lot to be grateful for.”
“I think it gives me a little bit of credibility with people who have suffered and faced adversity,” Wahlberg continued. “We just want to be able to do more, and I think what's better than having Ash Wednesday fall on Valentine's Day? Because where do you get more love from God and… in a time where there's such separation? We need things “It brings people together, and the power of prayer does that.”

Rumi agrees
Romy, who played Jesus Christ in The Chosen, couldn't help but completely agree with Wahlberg.
“I think it defines everything. It prepares your mind…it prepares your spirit to face…the challenges, perhaps today as well as the successes,” Romy said. “And I think as Mark said…that we start our day with gratitude and know that…we have We have been given a lot in this life to be grateful to God.”

This came days after Wahlberg and Roumie starred in a Super Bowl ad for the Hallow app, which subsequently saw a huge spike in downloads.

Wahlberg's strong Christian faith
Wahlberg has long been open about his strong Christian faith.
“It's a balance. I don't want to shove it down anyone's throat, but I'm not denying my faith. It's a greater sin,” Wahlberg said last year.
“You know, it's not common in my field, but I can't deny my faith. It's important for me to share that with people,” he continued. “But I have friends from all walks of life and from all kinds of different beliefs and religions, so it's important to respect them.” And honor them as well.”
