More than a million displaced Palestinians have found shelter in the southern Gaza Strip after fleeing the fighting in the north.
Now Israel says it will expand its military operations all the way to the south, with reports of heavy aerial bombardment in the Gaza area.
A ground invasion into the refugee-crowded area could be disastrous, and the United States has warned Israel against launching an attack without a “credible” plan to protect civilians.
