What a cold rain fell on Valentine's Day, but I'm sure there were a lot of warm hearts and everyone had a good day. Higher elevations received snow. Many of you around town have told me you've noticed the “splash test” on your windshield. Wet snowflakes mixed with rain. Everyone talks about it, so we call it conversation snow. I wasn't expecting much or any build up to the city levels.
I thought the hillsides above 1,000 feet might pick up a few inches of wet snow and a little more. Those cold easterly winds arrived on schedule as we discussed on Tuesday. Yes, it was snowing in the valley. I also see that snow has been falling and sticking over the coastal range leading to the Washington and Oregon beaches.
I think winter is not over yet. The good news is that after another cold day, we begin a slow warming trend over the weekend with more rain and higher snow levels. Vancouver's high temperature on Wednesday of 47 degrees was only the second time this month we've reached a temperature below 50 degrees. The other day was February 9th and the temperature was also 47 degrees.
