Love is in the air, and so is the question: What will the weather be like on Valentine's Day? Will the skies open for a relaxing afternoon stroll, or will the evening rain provide an opportunity to help fulfill your Ashiki-like fantasies?
So far, barring a little rain at some places, the weather seems to be playing cupid by providing pleasant sunshine and comfortable temperatures in most parts of India. Let's take a look at the forecasts for the five major cities in the country: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.
New Delhi
If you're hoping for a less rainy date, we'd love to be the bearer of good news! The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated the possibility of fresh rain and snowfall in north and northwest India later this week. However, Valentine's Day appears to have narrowly escaped the rain's grip.
Most areas of the national capital will enjoy warm sunshine and clear skies today, with the temperature expected to reach 24 degrees Celsius. The night will also be toasty cool, with the temperature dropping to around 9°C, perfect for cuddling under a shared blanket under the stars.
Mumbai
If you're planning to head to the City of Dreams today, make sure you're prepared for the heat! IMD data indicates that Valentine's Day is sunny and hot, with daytime temperatures hovering between 33-34 degrees Celsius in most parts of Mumbai.
Nighttime temperatures will drop to 19°C, perfect for an evening stroll along the beach, or perhaps dinner on the rooftop with stunning views of the city.
Bengaluru
Unfortunately for the city's water issues – but fortunately for lovers planning an outing – Bengaluru residents will witness another day marked entirely by clear skies and no rain.
According to IMD, the weather in Garden City will be pleasant and warm today, with the maximum temperature reaching 31 degrees Celsius. The night will be comfortable with a low temperature of 17-18°C, perfect for an al fresco candlelit dinner or a romantic stroll along Brigade Road.
Chennai
Similar to the forecast for Bengaluru, the gateway to south India will witness warm and partly cloudy weather on Valentine's Day today, with daytime temperatures hovering around 32 degrees Celsius in most areas. Nights are expected to be generally comfortable, with temperatures dropping to 23°C – the perfect time to ditch the jackets and enjoy a romantic stroll along Marina Beach!
Kolkata
With the Bay of Bengal anticyclone providing fresh moisture to eastern India, the city of joy may not be as cheerful, weather-wise. The IMD expects light or moderate rain in some parts of West Bengal today.
The citywide forecast calls for partly cloudy skies to turn to thundershowers in Alipore, Dum Dum and Salt Lake City, so pack umbrellas and be careful if you have outdoor plans for the day.
Aside from the rain, residents can expect a warm day with highs between 29 and 30 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures will be slightly cooler at 19 degrees Celsius. So plan indoor activities like a cozy movie night or a candlelit dinner at your favorite restaurant.
No matter your location or weather forecast, be sure to enjoy Valentine's Day, celebrate love with your special someone and make the most of the most romantic day of the year!
