The National Weather Service is looking for volunteers to train as storm spotters for the spring severe weather season.

Meteorologist Andrew Ansorg says observing classes will begin next month. “This is just an opportunity for us to go out into the community and provide refresher training on spotting training, as well as for people who might be interested who haven't had it before. It gives them information on how to spot a storm safely and reports that information to us here at the National Weather Service,” Ansorg says. .

The first class will be held in southwest Iowa, and you can learn more about the classes online, Ansorg said. “They can go to our website, Weather.gov/DesMoines, and there's a link at the top that talks about storm monitoring,” he says. First session on March 19 in Creston.
