In 2019, Democrats impeached Donald Trump. Then he did it again before leaving office in 2021.
It now appears they are looking to do so again should he win in 2024, a full year before he takes office.
This time, dozens of Senate Republicans appear to be helping, and Sen. J.D. Vance is sounding the alarm.
“We must vote against this disastrous bill.”
“Buried in the text of the bill is an impeachment time bomb for the next Trump presidency if he tries to stop funding the war in Ukraine,” Vance warned on the
He added: “We must vote against this disastrous bill.”
Vance explained more in interview with Tucker Carlson on X late Monday.
“It doesn't just fund Ukraine in 2024, which is the most important point,” Vance told Carlson of the aid package. “It actually funds Ukraine in '25 and '26.”
“Now what's the problem with that?” – asked the senator. “Suppose, for example, we have a new president in 2025. That president will be in handcuffs because of the promises we make to Ukraine today under the law.”

Vance continued:
If you go back to 2019, Tucker, to give you an idea of why this is important. In 2019, the US House of Representatives impeached then-President Donald Trump on the theory that they allocated money to Ukraine, and Donald Trump refused to send it to Ukraine.
So, if Trump is elected president again and becomes president in January 2025, he will practice diplomacy. If that diplomacy does not include sending additional billions to Ukraine, then there is a theoretical argument, or a predicate if you will, for impeaching Donald Trump because they tried to tie his hands.
We are not just sending billions to Ukraine in 2024. Rather, we are trying to make it impossible for the next president to practice diplomacy on his terms.
“It is anti-democratic and will lead to endless war throughout the world,” Vance added.

Vance helped filibuster the aid bill with significant help from Republican Sens. Rand Paul and Mike Lee for most of Monday and into much of the night.
