    * Winter weather warnings Issued to North Fauquier, Loudoun, North Montgomery, Howard, Frederick and Carroll Counties from 3am to 1pm Tuesday | School delays and closures *

A somewhat subjective assessment of today's weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: Dirty snowflakes rock the scene. Some say it's cute, others are mean.

    • today: The rain turns to snow this morning, then clears, and blows. Highest: near 45.
    • Tonight: Mostly clear, breezy. Lows: 26-34.
    • tomorrow: Sunny and breezy. Heights: 42-48.

The departing storm should dump some wet snow on us this morning before leaving this afternoon and leaving behind a lot of wind. The rest of the week will be relatively quiet with a warm trend on Thursday and Friday before a chance of light rain on Saturday. Seasonally nice weather returns for Sunday and Presidents Day.

today is Tuesday): Early morning rain should gradually mix with wet snow from northwest to southeast across the region and turn to wet snow before ending between 10am and midday. A brief heavy snowfall is possible between about 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., reducing visibility and possibly causing some slushy roads, especially in colder parts of the area. Accumulation, mainly in grassy areas, will likely range from an inch or two in our extreme north and west suburbs to a wet layer around the area and south. Skies clear and become windy in the afternoon but highs in the 40s should quickly clear away any sticking snow. Gusty winds are also helping to dry us out as they blow from the northwest at 15-25 mph with gusts up to 30-40 mph. Confidence: average

Tonight: Clear, cooler, and still breezy with lows in the mid 20s to mid 30s. Winds are northwesterly at 10-20 knots, with gusts reaching 25 knots at times. Confidence: high

tomorrow is Wednesday): Sunny and still breezy with temperatures in the 40s. Winds are still blowing from the northwest at 10 to 15 mph with gusts of 20-25. Confidence: high

Tomorrow night: The weather is mostly clear with low temperatures in the mid 20s to 30s with light winds. Confidence: high

Thursday It should start out on the sunny side, but then clouds increase during the day as highs rebound into the milder upper 40s to mid 50s. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with lows in the 30s. Confidence: medium-high

Friday Partly due to mostly sunny skies with highs reaching the mid 40s to near 50 again. Friday night becomes mostly cloudy with lows in the upper 20s to 30s. Confidence: average

beginning weekend Difficult as a weak weather system passes through. Saturday will be cloudy with the possibility of scattered light rain and snow showers. No significant accumulation is expected. Highs are expected to range into the 40s. Saturday night could still see rain or snow showers under a partly to mostly cloudy sky with lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s. Sunday and Presidents Day feature mostly sunny conditions with highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Sunday night is clear with lows in the 20s to lower 30s. Confidence: low-medium

A daily assessment of the likelihood of at least one inch of snow falling in the coming week, on a scale of 0 to 10.

3/10 (↑): If the precipitation is heavy enough, we could sneak an inch or so into our cooler areas this morning; Any chances of snow after that look very slim.
