Mike Lindsay – Mercury Prize-winning producer, co-founder of folk band Tunng, and one half of LUMP with Laura Marling – has announced his debut solo album. Superforms Volume 1 It will be released on June 14 via Moshi Moshi Records. It's the first installment in a series of albums that explore “the miracle in the mundane,” according to Lindsay, delving into “everyday domestic objects, especially tables, coffee table books, and the daily rituals that shape us, with a heavy emphasis on the sublime.” Inside.” Listen to the first single, a collaboration with Anna B Savage titled “Lie Down,” below.
“The song itself is loosely based on reverse FOMO, when you're out every night but yearning for domestic bliss, with all the menial tasks like taking out the trash and watching guilty-pleasure TV,” Lindsay explained in a press release. “There's a never-ending, annoying cycle of sevens on this track, and you can never relax. Although you're disoriented by the bowed bass, wobbly strings and woodwinds, you're interrupted by the rapid sparse table percussion and sax. The words Lay Lay Lay Lay Back… are all on the record On my phone from my entire family at Christmas.
Anna B Savage's vocals are prominently featured throughout the LP, which also includes contributions from multi-instrumentalist Ross Blake, saxophonist Robert Stillman (of The Smile's live band), and drummer Adam Betts (Three Bomber Tigers, Squarepusher). “I just worked with Robert Stillman on Nick Drake's cover of Saturday Sun which I did with Guy Garvey,” Lindsay said. “Robert is a wonderful saxophonist and musician. He has this beautiful, thick, warm, wild tone. I asked him to come over for a few days to bring his magic to the shapes.
“As time went on, I felt like the songs were still missing a sound,” he added. “The more I developed as an instrument, the more I could imagine Anna B. Savage's tones. I actually worked with Anna on her album in | the flow Which was a great experience. She is a true poet of everyday emotions. Over the course of four or five days together in my new studio in Margate, the super shapes began to come to life!
